Solar Panel and Battery Kit for Smart Bird Feeders, 10ft Cable, 6000mAh — Perchmont
Solar Panel and Battery Kit for Smart Bird Feeders, 10ft Cable, 6000mAh — Perchmont
The best spot for a bird feeder is rarely the sunniest. Shade under a tree is exactly where birds feel safe — and exactly where a built-in solar panel struggles.
This kit solves that. The 10ft cable lets you mount the panel where the sun is while the feeder stays where the birds are. The 6000mAh backup battery covers overcast stretches and short winter days, so the camera keeps running when the panel can't keep up.
What's included: extended solar panel, 10ft weatherproof cable, 6000mAh rechargeable battery, mounting hardware.
Compatible with all Perchmont camera feeders and nest boxes.

Clearance matters more than the pole
Clearance matters more than the pole
Squirrels rarely climb a pole — they climb something nearby and jump across. A grey squirrel can leap around ten feet horizontally and further from above.
Aim for ten feet of clear space in every direction. Look up as well as sideways; an overhanging branch is the most commonly missed route.
Stand where the pole will go and turn slowly in a full circle. Anything a cat could get onto, a squirrel can jump from.

Placement
They jump. They do not climb.
People picture a squirrel shinning up a pole. What usually happens is simpler — it gets onto a fence rail, a shed roof or a low branch, and jumps across.
Clear ten feet in every direction and half the problem disappears before you have bought anything.
Shade vs solar
Birds want cover. Panels want sun.
The spot birds feel safest in is usually the shadiest part of the garden — and the worst place for a built-in solar panel.
A 10ft cable lets the panel sit where the sun is while the feeder stays where the birds are.
Short days
For the overcast weeks
Winter light is thin and the days are short. A backup battery covers the stretches when a panel cannot keep up, so the camera keeps running through exactly the season you most want to watch.
