Nest Boxes

Nest boxes with cameras inside. A feeder shows you a stream of visitors; a nest box shows you one pair through a whole season — building, laying, hatching, and the morning they fledge.

Mount in late winter. Birds scout nesting sites for weeks before they build, so a box that appears in March has usually missed the decision. Chickadees and titmice will also roost inside overnight in cold weather, and a bird that has slept in your box all winter is very likely to nest in it.

The camera means you never need to open the box during the season — every inspection risks the pair abandoning the nest.
